The IB CP Diploma at South Salem High School

Students will select one of the CP Options, and take a minimum of four semesters in that program of study over grades 11-12.  Many of these programs offer the opportunity for college credit.

Students are required to take any two IB DP courses.  At least one of these courses must be a two-year IB course.  You will develop a personal plan with the CP Coordinator to best select DP coursework.

The IB PPS Course is an integral part of the IB CP Core. At South, you will take the course the  second semester of your junior year and the first semester of your senior year.  All of the CP diploma requirements are completed as part of this course.

The Personal and Professional Skills course is designed for students to develop attitudes, skills, and strategies to  be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now and in the future. In this course  the emphasis is on skills development for the workplace, as these are transferable and can be applied  in a wide range of situations.

The IB CP requires that you complete 50 hours of Service Learning over the course of your junior and  senior year. Ideally, your service learning is connected to your CTE program. 

As an IB CP student, you will be continuing your language and culture studies during your junior and senior  years. You have a variety of options to make this happen—it’s important you choose the option that  best works for your own personal situation.  There are four options to choose from to meet this requirement, but all options require at least 50 hours of learning over two years.

During the PPS course, you will begin studying ethics and start thinking about ethical dilemmas  within your chosen field of study. The Reflective Project is a 3000 word essay where you get to explore in depth an ethical dilemma in your career path.  Students will choose their own topic and work directly with a staff supervisor over the course of several months.
